lululemon's flared leggings are the new version of yoga pants

Get your grove on with the Groove Super-High-Rise Flared Pant from Lululemon

Heads-up for big fans of yoga pants who are still calling them yoga pants: These comfy staples are back in a big way, but with a new name: flared leggings.

Boosted by the growth of athleisure wear over the last decade, and further fueled by scores of house-bound, newly remote workers during the pandemic, leggings have become a wardrobe essential as of late. But after first rising to fame more than a decade ago, the flared version — with more volume in the leg and a wider hem that skims footwear — has once again hit cool status.

Case in point: the brand that first brought yoga pants onto the scene in the late 1990s, lululemon, has just quietly re-introduced its own flared leggings, the Groove Super-High-Rise Flared Pant (which retails for $118). In addition to the flared leg, the pants also feature a high-waist fit that hugs the midsection, a welcome evolution from the low-rise trend that seemed to linger for season after agonizing season).

The flared, high-waisted fit of the Groove already appears to be a welcome comeback for many reviewers ("my butt has never looked so good," raved one happy customer; "I cannot get over how comfortable these are," gushed another). And, like other versions of this latest iteration of flared leggings, the Groove also has a back drop-in waistband pocket that can hold a card, key, or cell phone. However, some also noted that the Groove's longer length — 32.5 inches, to be exact — is a bit too long.

Potential length issues aside, lululemon's latest release portends yet another wave of popularity for this stretchy style — no matter what you decide to call it.
